The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of New York City’s greatest traditions. Today, everyone is Irish in the Big Apple! And believe me, EVERYONE is celebrating!
The Parade marched for the first time in 1762 and today it’s the largest parade in the world. It started off at 44th street at 11 a.m. today and around noon, I joined in further north around 78th street. I stayed over an hour and understand it will end around 5:00 p.m. Everywhere is one big party. I can only imagine what is yet to come tonight!
The parade is a true marchers parade meaning they do not allow floats, automobiles and other commercial aspects. Every year the Parade Committee hosts the 150,000- 250,000 marchers, along with many great bands; bagpipes, high school bands and the ever-present politicians in front of the approx 2 million spectators lining Fifth Avenue. Nothing like a parade with men in uniform. Nice.
