Whenever I would go home to visit my parents in Virginia, my dad would always pick yellow roses from his garden and place them in my bathroom. That tradition continued all through the years, until my dad developed Alzheimer’s and he could no longer remember.
Today, to deal with the passing of my father, I took my camera to my garden for some alone time and found only one yellow rose in bloom. When I picked it, one petal fell to the grass below. I don’t have the words now…maybe later.
Don’t cry because it’s over…smile because it happened.

I am so very sorry, my dear friend.
I know as much as you try to prepare for that phone call and that day, you still are never ready.
Your photo and words touch me deeply.
My deepest condolences to you, mom and your family.
Heaven has certainly gained a special angel.
Your Dad will always watch over you and be in your heart forever.
May all your wonderful memories and the love of family and friends surround you and provide you with peace and comfort.
I feel as though I lost a piece of my heart, as well. I feel as liked I walked along side with you on your journey with Dad through your heartfelt photos and stories. I loved him without ever having the honor of meeting him.
Please know what a wonderful daughter you are and how very much he loved you.
You will hold hands and walk together again one day and he will recognize you and be the Daddy you had for so very long.
Many prayers, love and hugs to you. I am here for you, anytime.
XOXO

oh friend, my heart sits with yours
still in the silence,
a few yellow petals in my lap
I hold for you,
and your hand, too,
if you want,
and just share the sadness
for as long as it lasts,
for as long as you need.
warm tenderness to you,
