It’s difficult to put into words the weekend experience at my friend’s cabin in Vermont, appropriately named tan-y-garth. That’s a Welsh phrase, translated to half-way up the mountain.
There’s more solitude and silence than one can ever imagine here. Every so often during the day a chime or a soleri bell would produce an ever so gentle sound…reminding you there’s more than just the sound of your own heartbeat, your own breathing.
Still somewhat dormant from the winter, an occasional jonquil is in bloom…but one can feel the forest is readying for a saturation of all shades of green imaginable.
So speaking of the difficulty in finding the words to describe…this post will be a little more show than tell.
Let’s begin outside…
Now let me bring you inside…
I’ll leave you with my favorite portion of a poem found inside the cabin that describes this spectacular place far better than I would ever be able to with my words.
Written by a French Buddhist friend who had visited when tan-y-garth had been completed…
Brings peace and joy to the wonderer who visits…
~~~
Open to the stars, and welcoming the elements…
~~~
A balcony to contemplate and address the inner space…
~~~
One’s space and dream come together in architecture…
~~~
Where mind and spirit will find their true home…
I hope this has given you a small glimpse of the enchantment that exists at tan-y-garth!

A HUGE glimpse, Robin, and with so much more meaning for me now after our just-finished trip to England because one day we visited Wales. I loved seeing all the words everywhere in Welsh. I know you’ll never forget this experience. What a place for a retreat!

Yes, I’m very fortunate and grateful to have friends in Vermont that allowed me the use of their “cabin” during my stay!!

Some things you cannot explain, you have to show. You did a great job in showing the beauty, the peace, the quiet.
Incredible pictures, the waterfall is amazing. The close-ups so delightful.
This is the place to be to retreat.

And retreat I did! When there’s so much beauty it is hard to find all the words! Isn’t that why we love photography so!?! Thanks Astrid!!
