After a week in Peru…
with…
freezing night time temperatures and no heat in our nightly accomodations…
long, bumpy, dusty, washboard roads…
potatoes and potatoes and more potatoes…
a touch of high altitude impairment…
Spending the last couple of hours of our stay at Cicciolina with the chef Louis Alberto Sacilotto…
and his amazing crew…
Well let’s just say…I left Cusco…one very happy camper.
Just a short block or so from the main square in Cusco we entered a small, vibrant colored courtyard…totally lured in by the sweet smell of baking bread. Up the stairs of an old colonial house to the entrance we passed a window…wait…what was that? A peek in the window and a pasta maker working away…and we knew immediately this was our kind of place.
an hour or so later…
The open kitchen was bustling…filled with aromas and laughter…and steaming pots….
all with a periodic check-in by the amazing…Chef Sacilotto.
prawns coated with quinoa served with tumbo dipping sauce and roasted garlic foam…
calamari stuffed with sautéed mushrooms and drizzled with a traditional prawn sauce…
hand-made cracked pepper tagliolini pasta with fish and chicken and layers of flavors…
fresh pastry terrine with ripe mango slices accompanied with basil ice cream…
And oh yeah…there a few Peruvian beers and pisco sours thrown in there too!
Need I say more?
Cicciolina is all about attention to detail. What we look for is to create an ambience, where from the time you walk in the door, you feel like you want to stay & pass some time observing… experiencing…with the surprise of wonderful flavours in our food. A little bit cosmopolitan, alot like the city itself. A quote directly from their website and a description that totally nailed this experience.
Brava Cicciolina…Brava!
Gorgeous! Not yet been to Peru – but my experiences in the Minais Gerais area of Brazil feel very similar….
