…life on the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar…
…stretching for miles connecting the entire country…
A few evenings on the river banks of the Irrawaddy brought quiet, contemplative time…and an opportunity to experiment with the ever-changing light from the evening sunsets…a fusion of time, motion and natural light.
I came across Eva Polak’s work several years ago…an impressionist photographer in New Zealand…and immediately fell in love with her alternative approach to traditional photography. It’s always fun to do something different and I so enjoy using my camera as a paintbrush instead of a software program.
By the way…last night I watched the documentary Grab a Hunk of Lightning…a film examining the life and career of Dorothea Lange. If you have interest in photographing the human condition…this is a must watch!
I hope these captures bring a touch of mindfulness your way today!

I saw one of these images on IG and had to visit. I agree – these are stunning. The colour is so unique to the place. Wonderful abstract work, Robin.

Your pics show there is no sky or land, just a melting of the lines that blend. Love these. Just spent 1 3/4 hours watching the Dorothea Lange documentary. Amazing body of work, as yours is.
gotham girl says
Awww…thank you Pat! I just loved the documentary and so happy that you watched it too!

In astrology we say, “As in heaven above, so on earth below.” Exactly. The juxtaposing of the two couldn’t be more delicate, Robin. Thank you for going out on a limb to experiment with the beauty around you!
gotham girl says
Love that! Thank you!!!

I am following your links and by doing so . . . your path of learning and seeing. These photographs are some of my all time favorites. I love the seamless blending of layers and colors. I love the softness and lack of detail that gives rest and time to think and breathe. Robin, these are simply gorgeous! Each photograph gives a singular view – gone in an instant.
gotham girl says
Thanks Donna! I’ve come across many people who aren’t crazy at all about impressionist photography, but I adore it. You’ve gotta spend time doing it…to come up with those few special ones…but always worth the investment. Thanks always for your lovely and inspiring comments!

So breathtakingly beautiful.
Could you please share if you get this gorgeous painting effect from a lens or is it a digital process? I am very ignorant with today’s photographic technology.
Wow, the 2nd is my favorite but all so individually peaceful and beautiful. Your talents just blow me away!
Love you and thank you for sharing such beauty.

Oh, another afterthought…..I’m going to keep my eye out for that movie. There is this cool small, old movie theatre in Raleigh that plays independent and foreign films. So cool, cash only and they even sell beer and wine, although the popcorn sucks. LOL, but every Friday I check to see what’s playing because I usually go alone because no one can ever get into the movies that I enjoy. I love going by myself and seeing a great movie that only a few others can appreciate. I just have to get over the bad popcorn.
gotham girl says
This is all coming from just the movement of the camera or the movement of the lens. No software on these! It’s all about playing! Thanks always for your notes!
