This year we inquired about the possibility of adding an additional school to our visit. It didn’t take long before one was identified in the small village of Mo Rut and a nice boat ride from the village of Tan Dan. It was a perfect addition since we were already traveling by boat via the Hoa Binh Lake in northwest Vietnam.
As soon as we arrived, it took only seconds for me to spot that dilapidated boat. I knew right away there was photography treasure just waiting for me. Wabi-Sabi! I could have stayed at that spot for hours photographing.
Walking up the hill to the school in the village of Mo Rut reminded me so much of all those treks we made to the villages along the Coco River in Nicaragua.
This school was so small (only two classrooms) where different levels of teaching happened in the same room, distinguished by the desks and students facing opposite of each other.
Since the student size was small it allowed us the opportunity to take individual photos to give away. Gotta love our Fujifilm Instax mobile printer!
It was clear that some of the students had responsibilities, such as this young man. The keeper of the key to lock the classroom at the end of the day.
Now that the school was locked and the children home, we made our way back to the boat for our journey back to Mai Chau. The end of a long day as we filled the remaining time listening to music, taking photos and enjoying time with new friends.
