The Festival of Our Lord of the Conquest
…elaborately dressed, wearing traditional beaded costumes, masks and feathered headdresses…
…all ages, arriving from surrounding towns…
…dancing to the deep, steady beat of drums…
along with the rattling of seed pods from their dancing legs…
…transforming the esplanade of the jardin of San Miguel into a world class stage…
…filling the air with the aroma of burning incense…
This annual festival takes place on the first Friday of March in honor of El Señor de la Conquista, a figure representing Christ crucified.
It was so fun to see all the Mexican families, as well as gringos, gathered in the jardin…watching, socializing, eating and just having a great time! So colorful!
Ok, one last post coming up with a quintessential capture of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico!
(before we head to Cambodia!)

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments! It’s easy when the subject matter is so colorful and beautiful! Well…perhaps not totally easy…as it was right in the middle of the day when the sun was at its brightest, but I did my best with it! For all of you that have yet to travel to Mexico, trust me…this is a fabulous place to start!

This trip has shown me more beautiful colors than I have ever seen in my life! And to think, I am still excited when I see and smell a new box of Crayola crayons. What a sheltered life, LOL!
Such beautiful captures, as always, Robin. Not only the fabulous colors and costumes but the people. Their pride and joy in their celebration of their beliefs, all ages.
Your beautiful photos make me feel as though not only can I see the explosion of colors but feel the sun on my face, smell the aromas in the air, hear all of the music and noises, as if I am right there next to you.
One thing though….OK, I think the man in #8 is really named Vito and is in the Witness Protection Program, trying to blend in with the natives. Hey, what can I saw, I’m from Brooklyn.
XOXO

What an amazing place you visited. SO easy for you to say, that it was a ‘piece of cake’ to take colourful pictures. You did so good with getting the details out and the beauty. The shadows are a different world on its own. This post tells me you had FUN 🙂
