On the road to Mandalay….if those words sound familiar well it was Rudyard Kipling’s famous poem written in 1892 and later made even more famous by Frank Sinatra in the 1950’s… Mandalay, originally the capital of the old Burma and now the second largest city in Myanmar.
The first day was busy…but then most were come to think of it…filled with pagodas, monasteries, and of course the Mandalay Palace…the last royal palace of the last Burmese monarchy.
My favorite of the day was the Kuthodaw Pagoda, popularly known as The Word’s Largest Book – the complete Buddhist scriptures inscribed on 729 upright stone slabs surrounding the pagoda. Fascinating and especially in the late afternoon light. The perfect ending of the day…Mandalay Hill…watching the sun set from the terrace of the Sutaungpyei Pagoda, overlooking the city of Mandalay.

This is a place we don’t often see on the internet, Robin, so what a treat it is to see your images. You’ll be forever “marked” by this experience, I know!

Did I tell you how much I love your pictures? Perfect in composition and color and … and most of all: touching, each one of them.

Robin, I know exactly what you mean about not being a big picture photographer, is it maybe the way a woman sees the world? And so I love the intimacy and the detail in your images. How I would love to go there. Really enjoying this journey with you…..

You never disappoint in your selection of images, you manage to capture a real flavour of wherever it is you land. The first image is the best by a country mile I love it.
