It’s time to pack the sunglasses…leave the big city…and head to Myanmar!
<and yes…déjà vu…>
Now why do I want to return to a country that I just visited a year ago? Well last year’s trip was a guided “taste” of Myanmar, not to mention…way too many visits to pagodas. And as you can see from the image below…change is happening. And one can only imagine what even a year will bring, much less several.
Everyone knows…given time…Myanmar will change.
When purity is no longer, when it gets bulldozed by the wealthy and changed by our western ways…
We’ll see what this visit brings…but the beauty…the people…the culture…lures me back…yep…one year later.

I can’t wait to wander around amongst the stupas in Bagan…
no guide…no agenda…
just to soak it all in…

I can’t wait to return and have dinner again at the restaurant that overlooks the Irrawaddy River…

I can’t wait to discover a new area…Kalaw…
and trek through orange and tea plantations for a couple of days…
and spend a little time at the Green Hill Valley Elephant Camp…
including a home stay for a night…

And I can’t wait to get up early and capture the mist and fog on Inle Lake…
this time with my tripod…and a few other ideas I have…
Of course I hope to share some images along the way…if the internet connection behaves. So this trip I’m also using Instagram to give you a taste of what’s happening during the next 14 days too!

Robin, Oh how happy I am for you that you will return to this magical place. I’ll admit that I need to pull out a map to refresh my geography. I went back to read your post from your journey last year and can see why you would want to return. Many times, even on our little travels, I keep saying, “I’m going to come back here when I have time and no agenda so I can really take the photos I want to take, immerse myself in the beauty and culture, proceed unhurriedly.” I often make repeat visit to my favorite places -and after awhile they feel like mine. I will look forward to your photos – and thank you so much for the Instagram button so I can follow along! Be safe and adventure with your heart wide open.

The thing is, Life is short! You have to do these things when you can and are able…because you never know when you can’t. Good for you, Robin. I know this place stole your heart. Travel mercies. (When do you leave and when do you return?)
Lucky girl, have a good trip! And yes, changes … I went to Sri Lanka in 1981, and again 3 years later. And I hardly recognized it, so much had changed within 3 years. I’m so looking forward to your new pictures! Have a good trip …
