Being back in NYC for a few days provided an opportunity to take in the opening night of The Rocket at the Lincoln Center’s Film Center. The visually stunning location of Laos provides the perfect setting for this coming-of-age story about a ten year old boy striving to prove his worth to his family. The amazing performances by two young children will absolutely blow your mind. The main character, Ahlo, is a young boy who in real life is a Lao street kid who sells sweets and begs in order to survive. His partner in crime, Kia, is also from Laos and in real life attends primary school. Of course watching this movie reminded me of the beautiful people of Myanmar…
This adorable little one represents so many of my cultural experiences in Myanmar as well as the profound beauty of the people, both inside and out. There are tales to be told…coming up!

She’s so adorable. You always capture the best expressions on everyone of all ages.
I always feel badly for the little ones around the world who have to sell goods and beg to tourists. This little girls face tells me it’s all good. She knows no differently, it’s just a way of life. She doesn’t miss her video games or expensive sneakers because she never had them. It’s these children who always seem so happy when they’re playing with friends or sharing time with strangers. Our kids, not so much. What a paradox.

A beautiful picture and a wonderful smile. It is like Lisa said, a way of life, they don’t know any different. And we cannot compare, a different world a different culture….
