Happiness lies in the fulfillment of the spirit...
~ Cyril Connolly
Travel…always fulfills my spirit. A chance away from the routine, to gain a better understanding of another culture, always opens my mind. But in San Miguel, Mexico the fulfillment was way beyond the usual. The added bonus? The amount of talent and creativity in such a small area was just over the top. It’s cultural and artistic reputation far exceeded my expectations. I had no idea.
Over a year ago, a dream came true for me by attending a paper-making workshop at Dieu Donne in NYC. (You can read about my experience here.) So you can imagine my excitement to visit the paper-making extraordinaire, Terry Ann Tomlinson whose gallery, studio and home is located in the heart of San Miguel.
“My work is abstracted in imagery, minimal in content, direct in feeling, all in an attempt to capture a glimpse of the spiritual reality that unites in all forms of life.” Brilliant! It was so fun to learn that she also spends part of her year living and working in Woodstock, New York…a place that’s been on my list to visit for a long time. AND, get this! When she lived in Manhattan, prior to moving to Woodstock, she lived on my street! Synchronicity at its finest!
Love, love, love her work. My capture above was hanging from the ceiling of her home…oh I could spend hours admiring her work. Now, I just need to figure out which piece I must have! Thanks Terry for such inspiration and fulfilling my spirit!
