Sooooo disappointed when I heard the Lukoil gas station in West Chelsea was closing for yet another luxury condo….but delighted to see that the developer decided to turn the site into a temporary public art program during the interim. There’s been mention the developers hope to incorporate comparable projects within the final construction, so let’s hope so…time will tell!
But for now the station – named Getty Station has turned Sheep Station with sculptor Francois-Xavier Lalanne‘s 25 of his wooly sheep made of epoxy stone and bronze. I mean really…isn’t this just great! Right in the heart of Manhattan you have rolling pasture, neatly trimmed bushes and a white fence complete with sheep!
Opening day is Tuesday, Sept. 17th running through October 20th. Make an afternoon of it by visiting the High Line followed by a beer or two at The Half King!

That wall’s always been JR’s canvas. Perhaps the worst thing is that we’ll love the Wrinkles of the City mural by JR.

Just love the sheep and the general quirkiness of it all. It’s a shame it isn’t permanent
