Wow. Can’t believe it has been over three years since my photography journey began…and still it seems every day is just the beginning. The beginning of wanting more. To move outside the conventional approach of photography of just capturing subject matter. As authors Andy Karr and Michael Wood so eloquently state in their book, The Practice of Contemplative Photography…conventional photography is like a butterfly collector looking for another specimen to add to his or her collection. Don’t get me wrong. I’ll still add more butterflies to my collection because this is part of the learning process, plus I enjoy it! But I’m ready (and want) to learn more.
That’s where Miksang comes into the picture. Miksang is a Tibetan word meaning “good eye” and represents a form of contemplative photography based on the Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa, in which the eye is in synchronization with the contemplative mind. Hmm…got that? Well I want to better understand it, so I’m heading off to a three day Miksang training workshop here in the city. It begins tonight and runs through the weekend up until Monday night.
I’ll look forward to sharing the experience with you over the next few days! Happy Weekend!
P.S. Thrilled to have one of my photos showcased in the 52 Photos Project’s Artist Spotlight this week! Thanks Bella!
Oh I haven’t touched my camera for ages. Not having the time lately, I think I need to get out for a photo-walk soon.
Have a great weekend!!
Frida, your work is fabulous so get out there with that camera of yours and show us more!
Robin, I am so looking forward to reading – and seeing – more about your workshop. You know I am envious…. 😉
Enjoy!
Oh Sue, run…don’t walk to the nearest Miksang class! I have a feeling you will so enjoy it!
Wow! That sounds so interesting. I can’t wait to hear what you learn and see it applied in your photos.
Thanks Maery for following along!
So looking forward to seeing what path your Miksang workshop leads you down….One thing I know for sure is, if your interested in “it”, YOU will make “IT” even better than “it” ever thought “it” could be!!! XXOO & MORE!!! GH
You know me all too well! xoxo Thank you!!

I so enjoyed capturing them for you Nikki!
I can just see you soaking all this up, Robin. But to be honest, I think you already see with Miksang eyes!
I did learn that I have been seeing with Miksang eyes, but this has taken it to another level. Thank you always Ginnie for your support and inspiration!
Love this
