Oh…little blog...I’m back. I have so much to tell you.
Honestly, I’m still trying to get my thoughts together because within 48 hours of returning from a month in Mexico, I headed to New Mexico. Yep, no grass growing here…a wonderful time with friends to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.
I really don’t know where to start. There’s just so much write about in this little journal of mine. Since this was my fourth visit to San Miguel de Allende I didn’t want images of the “typical” beautiful vibrant scenes that one expects from that colorful little town. So I focused on my true love…abstract and wabi sabi images. A much deeper look. And I found plenty, not only in images but also inside of me.
In my last post, I mentioned “letting go.” I thought a lot about that and not only from an art perspective, but life as well. We often feel as if we need a plan or a sense of knowing where are path will lead, but having these expectations often leads to disappointment. I found this so true in my first attempt at painting. I’m now on my fourth layer and it’s a constant struggle to create without knowing where I’m going. But I’m embracing it and with every layer I’m “letting go” a little more. I’ll be writing and sharing more about this as I move forward in my art AND in trying to get my mind around how to handle the outcome of this election.
I started my birthday year with reading a prompt each morning from Liz Stubbs’ new book – Our Bodacious Year of Living WHAT IFs! “366 snack-size empowering prompts that create life-transforming shifts for on-the-go humans.” Filled with “what if” statements to open our minds to the dreams we thought were impossible. I met Liz during my photography course with Peter Turnley back in 2015. An award-winning writer and photographer, she is one of those people you meet and feel as if you’ve known them all your life. Today’s prompt – What if we invite today to be an experience of miraculousness? Definitely something to think about! What if!
P.S. The image above? One afternoon we had a torrential downpour and long story short we boarded a bus that we thought would take us close to our home. Well quite the opposite happened and we went way out into the suburbs of San Miguel. The bus was filled with locals and with that came very foggy windows as well as a wonderful photographic experience. I’ll share a series of images in a future post.

Brimming with possibilities, hidden by fog that makes things even more beautiful. Life is so good, isn’t it?
Very happy to see you again, though I’ve been seeing you on IG and as you know, totally been blown away by your abstracts.

Welcome back….I am still off social media and not blogging….I started my hiatus in August and will continue with hopes to return in January…Letting go has been life changing for me during this time too both from a physical and spiritual healing! Take care my friend!!
gotham girl says
There is so much merit to “letting go” and it was wonderful to do a lot of that during my month in Mexico. So I get it! I do, however, miss your beautiful blog postings…so I hope you return in January! ENJOY!! xo

‘Great to be back home’…. it is always good to go away and it is always good to come home. We saw a saying like: ‘People travel all over the world and the thing that they were looking for they found when the came home again’… (or something like that)
What it does not say is that while you travel, you meet so many great people that will fill you with energy and you will live with that energy for a long time and you will be motivated by these people…
Welcome home, a wonderful picture and yes I do feel your energy, take your time to tell us pieces and bits, we like to hear your stories…
Love and hugs.
Astrid.

So true Astrid…travel opens our minds and I wish more people would/could…so it makes it even more important to share our experiences like we do. Thanks always! xoxo ❤️

Such a cool photo! I long to do more visual work. Alas, I also long to paint with words and wish I could manage both. But to focus on one is better than focusing on neither. As you say, letting go of expectations and enjoying what fits into a day. I can’t wait to see and hear more about your experience in Mexico.
gotham girl says
Thanks Maery! It was one of the highlights of my trip being on that bus and having no clue where we were or where we were going. Having it crowded with locals steaming up the windows and rain pouring…a wonderful memory and I know every time I look at my images it’ll bring me right back to that experience! Here’s to letting go!

A gorgeous image, Robin. I’m with you regarding the unreality of our present reality. I’m so media shy these days that I’ve backed away from computer time. The one thing I miss however is your lush, always gorgeous blog. I do however, very much enjoy your images on Instagram. Please keep ’em coming:)
gotham girl says
Thank you so much Elena! And likewise…so enjoy your paintings and all those sweet images of birds! You keep ’em coming too!

I love that photo, Robin. A bus with foggy windows? Who would have thought… Makes me think about the unexpected. I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing more!

I don’t know how it happened but I “lost” your blog even though you are on my Blogroll, but the link didn’t seem to work for some reason. Anyway, luckily you put the link up on FB and here I am reading another of your travel based posts which I always love. Good luck with your paining. I am sure, for you, it will be another enriching and exciting voyage of discovery: all you need is perseverance, and you’ve got plenty of that 🙂
