The Phoenix: Xu Bing at the Cathedral
Previously presented (for the first time in the USA) at MassMoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts…
and now in my city at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
Chinese contemporary artist Xu Bing gathered items from construction sites all across Beijing and through ingenuity and amazing engineering…
now presents Phoenix…
two birds, each weighing 12 tons…
now soaring out the front door of the Cathedral of St. John Divine!
While we’re on the subject of exhibits….Kara Walker’s exhibit…A Subtelty or The Marvelous Sugar Baby!
Oh my…stay tuned!

I’m trying to remember if there was any exhibit at all when we were there at the cathedral last October, Robin? I don’t think so. But THIS one…how could you ever ever ever forget it! 12 tons each bird! How in the world did they transport them…and then hang them???? It blows my mind. I sure hope they’ve hung them securely. I checked out your links and loved seeing the burds from above, too. WOW!
