Easter in new york city. Yesterday, once again the Good Friday Blues at St. Mark’s Church in the Bowery provided a unique experience using American blues music to recreate the Passion story of Jesus. It also gave me the excuse to have lunch at my favorite restaurant, Cafe Mogador, and walk the streets of the East Village to enjoy the minds of the people who live in the area…ahem, like above.
But getting back to the Good Friday Blues…this event remains in my top ten experiences since moving to Manhattan a few years ago. My first experience was last year and once again there were plenty of empty seats…and the question remains…why aren’t people coming to this incredible service? You don’t have to be religious…and trust me, I’m far from it…but the talent here, oh my. The dancers from the Vissi Dance Theatre, the St. Mark’s Choir, and those amazing gospel blues voices singing those familiar songs…You Got Me Where You Want Me, Chain of Fools, I’ll Take you There…Oh, so amazing…goose bumps are guaranteed.
Tomorrow there’s the Easter parade. Well not really a parade, but a chance to walk Fifth Avenue and take photos of creative Easter bonnets and other outrageous outfits. This will be my fourth year of adding to my photo collection. Can you believe this tradition has continued since the mid 1800’s?
Wherever you may be and whatever you may be doing this Easter…enjoy!
I’ll share some pics next week.

Oh my.. that poor baby doll hanging upside down in the tree does make you wonder what was going through the mind of the person who put it there… Love the photo of the mother/daughters walking together in their Easter finest…don’t you know they thought the were the cat’s meow? Happy Easter to you frissy. Enjoy!

I see that money grows on trees….
Don’t you just love the minds of others…. I gave me a smile. Wonderful ‘Golden Oldies’ pictures, I am sure you will come up with some great shots from the parade.
I am glad you went to the Good Friday Blues, I know how soulful that is.
Happy Easter 🙂
Love and hugs.

Leave it to Astrid to talk about money growing on trees! Why didn’t I think of that first. HA! Sweetest of Easters THIS Easter, dear Robin. My heart is with you there in your beautiful city, so close to your heart. I can hardly wait for your images.

Were the last two pictures taken the same year? Must have been a pretty chilly day compared to now a days.

You always introduce me to scenes and events I would not otherwise see, and your pictures capture the heart and spirit of them so well, that you bring me as near to travelling as I can get without leaving my chair. Thank you
