It was warm afternoon and a chance to hang with friends for a few hours in a small neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona called the Willo District. Similar to Soho, Noho or Nolita in MY city, the area was not named after the willow tree, but the combination of two districts, Wilshire and Los Olivos. Nestled in the heart of the city is a little slice of history from the early 1900’s.
Unlike most of Arizona where we all hide in the backyard in walled housing developments, here in the Willo District there’s a feeling of being welcomed. Clusters of adirondack chairs with small fire pits in the front yards, porches with vintage chairs and puffy pillows, all just begging for a small group to share in a bottle of wine and plate of cheese.
No worries here of your home looking the same as the one two doors down. The styles range from Tudor to Spanish and Greek Revival, Bungalow and Ranch. Some covered with cedar shakes while others are brick or stucco.
All with unique details and charm.
Thank god in the 1980’s the residents of the Willo District had the foresight and achieved historical status to preserve this little slice of heaven for the enjoyment of future generations.
If you happen to be in Phoenix in February, once a year the residents put our their welcome mats and a variety of homes dating from the 1920’s through the 1940’s are on tour. The Willo District Home Tour – not to be missed!

Hi Robin,
Have to say they’re all nice colorful shots, however the one that appeals to me is the blue cactus with blue reflective paned window. Specially like the textured wall as backgound, simple, those elements work well together.

Willo is certainly a beautiful neighborhood, we live across the street in Encanto Palm Croft.
