It’s that time of year…
My dream calendar is a month-at-a-glance calendar with big enough boxes to write in, one that stays open easily with no spiral connectors or metal loops because I’m left-handed, the week starts on Monday and NOT Sunday, it’s not filled with pages of crap that I don’t need, yet easily fits into my purse. Do you know how hard it is to find one of those?
Why do calendar companies feel the need to give us pages and pages of time zones, area codes and international dialing access codes yet two pages for notes? And about those pages of measurements and weight conversions. Do people really use those? And don’t get me started on two pages for addresses, phone numbers and emails all within in a tiny 1″ x 1/4″ rectangle? Please.
Bet right now you’re thinking…why isn’t she using her electronic gadgets and let “the cloud” do its magic? Oh don’t get me started. If you’re using a paper calendar how often do you have to worry about a 2013 appointment ending up in 2014? Or recurring appointments getting duplicated two and three times? Or there’s a thunderstorm in the clouds and everything gets mucked up?
But seriously, it’s only January 5th and I’m already on my third calendar. The first one I tore out all the weights and measurements and it fell apart. Toss! The second one had pretty much what I was looking for, but it was too small. I mailed that one to my mother. (I bet she’s not using it either.) So the third one is pretty much a keeper. A moleskin monthly “notebook” that even has a handy dandy little pocket envelope at the end. I’m sure at some point during the year that will come in handy. My only wish? If it could be a touch smaller. But hey, this one is 98 percent there.
But it’s also an end of year ritual I look forward to. While transferring dates and reminders there’s time for reminiscing about past activities and birthdays I failed to recognize. (Oops.) I pat myself on the back because it’s so neat due to using my no. 2 pencil instead of an ink pen. Yes, I love my no. 2 too. But finding the perfect pencil has its own challenges and a post for another time.
So tell me…are you a paper calendar lover and have the same issues…or am I just special?

Well, you are very SPECIAL my sweet Frissy, but, I do use a paper calender too, and couldn’t manage my family’s lives without it. I always buy the Arizona Highways engagement calender. Beautiful photos of Az. You wouldn’t like it because it’s spiral bound, but it fits in my “big” purse. However, the week does start on Monday…I love the ritual of transferring info at the end of the year too. Great Post! XXOO & MORE!!! GH

You ARE “just special,” of course (3 out of 3 right now is a good % for truth), and Astrid will totally agree with finding the right calendar. It was something she talked about for several days at the end of the year, wondering if her company would give them the same one as last year, which she loved. They didn’t, so she went out to buy her own. It sits to the left of her laptop, has had everything transferred, and is actually there for us both, I rely on her/hers for all the important information.
How’s that for becoming unencumbered and dependent in my senior years. HA! Let my wife do it for me. 🙂

:)……..
You are special. And quite normal when it comes to calendars. It is like Ginnie said, I got a good one from the company, last year. This year, nope…… no money I guess.
I have the calender next to the computer and I write everything down.
I totally agree with all those nonsense pages they put into such a booklet. But as so many things in our surrounding, they are probably invented and designed by men, well here is your answer….. what do they know about being practical????
So hang on to your calendar and I hope you can find the same one, next year 🙂

I agree wholeheartedly! I have a battered old filofax which seves me quite rightly. But I do throw out world maps, religious festivals(?!) etc. And it has little pockets for notes or visiting cards-heaven!

I always struggle with calenders, especially later in the year. But this year, I’m optimistic, because I found a calendar with beautiful photos from Robert Doisneau. How couldn’t I love it?
BTW: I love your picture …
