As we got closer to the vineyard (see previous post) we came across a dense wooded area and a small winding road to somewhere. Hmm…we weren’t familiar at all with the name of the place…Happy Hollow Gardens…even though it’s in our own backyard!
We continued on and entered a manicured trail area with a very long bridge stretched along a small meandering stream. A small sign, Azalea trail, beckoned a chance to get in touch with mother nature. Later I learned there’s over 800 azaleas amidst 34 acres of manicured gardens and surrounding woodlands in this little park. Incredible…
As we explored, my mom remembered that a friend of theirs was part responsible for the garden and after googling we learned there’s an interesting history here that began in 1908. What a treat!
We’ll look forward to a fall hike to enjoy the color from the stands of oak trees while we anticipate what spring will offer when the azaleas bloom!
