This afternoon I put my cotton tops (parents) in the car and off we went, just a few miles from the farm, to visit Valhalla winery. A local doctor and his wife (the Vascik’s) acquired the property in 1994 that just happened to be located beside of my dad’s home place, my grandparents farm in the day. Peach trees were cleared to make way for grape vines. Lots of grape vines. How about 21 acres of grape vines.
When construction began on the winery and barrel cave, a buddha statue was unearthed. Who knows where it came from, but from the looks of their success, buddha’s good karma continues to bless their winery and vineyard in many ways. Such as winning over 100 international and national awards and featured in Wine Spectator and Decanter magazines to name a few!
We’re already looking forward to a return visit in the fall, but this time with a picnic basket to be enjoyed along with the wine and beautiful views.

This place looks absolutely amazing. I bet their wine is wonderful. And – interesting story about the un-earthing of the buddha. Looking forward to Part II of the story!
