9:00 PM Fruit Attack

If you know the Gotham Girl you know that I LOVE fruit.  A couple of weeks ago while apartment hunting I ran across a fabulous market – Westside Market.  Since it was around 9:00 p.m., I called before I headed out, just to make sure they were open.  Yep, the city never sleeps, here’s the response:  “Why honey, we are always open, 24/7!  Come on over!”  The owner, John Zoitas, came to the U.S. more than 45 years ago starting as a produce clerk at the supermarket that stood at this location.  After seven years, he had the opportunity to purchase the store.  The story behind this store is fascinating and way too much to blog about.  But according to his flyer, Mr. Zoitas doesn’t consider the stores around him as competition (there are 3 huge stores similar to his within 2 blocks) nor does he worry about what the others are doing.  “My father always told me if you go to the other stores, you create their ideas; if you don’t, you create your own innovations.”  Well said Mr. Zoitas!  You have found another loyal customer.
