Passing the Waldorf Astoria always takes me back in time. OMG, perhaps it’s been over 20 years? I still giggle thinking of the fun time that we had when three of us shared a room (that would be ONE room with ONE bed) at the Waldorf just to say we’d stayed in one of the most luxurious, elegant and iconic hotels in New York City.
While in the neighborhood, a walk through the lobby was in order, just for old times sake. Immediately upon entering is the Park Avenue cocktail terrace with a mahogany Steinway piano on display. Not just any piano, but one that was given to the hotel as a gift from Cole Porter, a long time resident of the hotel. A beautiful piano as well with intricate hand carvings and decorative paintings.
Moving towards the main lobby the place drips with gold, beautiful dark wood, art deco chairs, and enormous chandeliers. Of course, the showpiece is the ornately carved bronze clock set on a base of mahogany and marble and topped with the Statue of Liberty.
Time stands still…the feel of pure elegance…Ahhh…the world of the privileged…
