Almost three years ago, I posted about the Standard Hotel and since then I’ve received several inquiries about using this particular capture in various advertisements. When responding, there was only one request. Give me, as the photographer, credit. Of course no one would…until now. (And yes…I’m sure they used it anyway…)
A couple of months ago, a representative of the New York City Monthly sent me a note to ask if my photo could be used in their June guide. Seems they were working on a piece on rooftop bars and my photo was a perfect fit. After an email exchange and their agreement to give me credit, the representative also mentioned sending me a guide when it was published. I rolled my eyes thinking…sure, you say that now.
But sure enough, this week the New York City Monthly guide arrived in my mail. And with credit! Thank you New York City Monthly! Wow, a company not only as good as their word, but one that followed through! How rare!
It’s obvious from some of their new advertisers (FAO Schwartz, Kenneth Cole, MoMA etc.) they think the same. Coming up on their one year anniversary, I wish the folks at New York City Monthly much success! After looking through it, it does meet the standard as the Ultimate Guide to New York City. (Well, of course, with the exception of my blog! Ha!)
