No Big Box here! Imagine my surprise wandering around the Flatiron District of Manhattan and came across the Home Depot store. I love it when architectural firms get it. In this case they (GreenbergFarrow) combined a pair of existing limestone buildings, preserving the historic facades, complete with the original architectural details. The interior has a loft-style design with offices located above the retail floors. A beauty!

Your right about their getting it! This magnificent structure has been home to a lot of companies: Hasbro Toys, Black & Decker, Bozell Healthcare Agency (I brought some of my work down there once) and lately Home Depot. Your photo is nice, would be great if you showed your readers the outside white classical cast iron facade that was built in 1878 for the Stern’s family as their flagship department store. It was a classy place, part of the ever expanding ‘Ladies Mile’ of shopping meccas prior to the turn of the century. The whole Flatiron-Madison Square district is loaded with architectural gems!
