As I rounded the corner of my apartment building, I immediately smelled smoke. Several people were running towards the bike pathway on the Hudson River. I could see the smoke was coming from one of the piers just a little south of my building. With luggage in tow, I entered the apartment as quickly as I could to capture a few photos of the huge black billows of smoke engulfing the Upper West Side. I’ve since learned that more than 130 firefighters responded and thankfully no serious injuries occurred. Cause of the fire is still unknown at this point in time. What a homecoming!
Both photos taken seconds before firefighters were on the scene and before authorities closed the West Side Highway for fire trucks to respond to the scene.
