One of the main reasons for a weekend trip to Minneapolis was to attend a fundraising event for tiny Tim & friends. TT&F’s mission is to provide medical, educational, vocational, and nutritional support for HIV+ orphans, vulnerable children, and pregnant women in Zambia.
So how did this come about? It all started with an invitation from a good friend in Minneapolis to come and support this fun event on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. Her parents are the founders and her brother, Dr. Tim Meade, is the executive director. It all started back In 2003, when a pregnant woman with AIDS was found living in a bus terminal in Lusaka, Zambia. After delivering the baby, Dr. Tim and a team of volunteers took turns bringing warm formula to the child. Unable to care for her newborn son, the mother asked Dr. Tim to take care of the baby. As a sign of gratitude, she named the baby Tim. Today, Dr. Tim is the Medical Director of Corpmed Medical Centre in Lusaka, Zambia and a volunteer physician at several area orphanages and hospices. He lives with his adopted son, tiny Tim.
Loved meeting Dr. Tim (who happens to be beautiful in so many ways) and his son (who happens to be adorable) and learning about all the accomplishments of this organization. Of course I couldn’t resist “helping” by purchasing this purse the women made out of recycled plastic grocery bags. And yes, I realized I purchased their “marketing” bag, but how fun! Hmm….I think I see a trip to Zambia in my future.
