Enjoyed chatting with Joe in Washington Square Park as he’d just started one of his amazing sand paintings. I’d seen his work and captured a photo or two a couple times during the past year, but the first time seeing one in the beginning stages. By the end of the day this piece will be between 15 and 20 feet in diameter. He’s been using the streets as his canvas for the past several years and you’ll usually find him either in Washington Square, Union Square or Columbus Circle.
Here’s a finished one from Union Square I captured about a year ago…
Can you imagine the feeling when a strong gust of wind comes along?
That is so amazing! Reminds me of the “carpetas” that they build in Latin America for Semana Santa (Easter week). Such an incredible art!
I was unaware of the “carpetas” so I looked it up. Exactly! Thanks for posting Rebecca!
Amazing….
Thanks for the pic . . . amazing artwork. This is the kind of stuff that you miss when you fly in, and out.
That’s what I’m so loving about having the opportunity and time to actually live here! Every day is a movie scene!
