Before I showcase a business on my blog, I gotta really really like it. Now keep in mind, I don’t like to photograph food. Let’s leave that to the experts. I love quality food, but I’m not a foodie nor a food critic. All I’m doing is sharing the discovery of a great place with good service and good food. Period. Nothing more, nothing less.
Popover Cafe is on the corner of West 86th Street on Broadway in the Upper West Side. My hood. Their doors opened in 1981 with eight tiny tables and NO stove. Thirty years later Carol Baer now seats 100 in her restaurant and yes, she now has an oven. Many ovens I’m sure and I bet BIG ovens. Her mantra: Keep it simple, use the freshest quality ingredients and serve the best food possible. Mission so accomplished.
Consistent service, pleasant atmosphere and after multiple tries I can tell you the coconut-almond crusted challah french toast and the lemon twist pancakes are to absolutely die for. And that’s only a start to breakfast. I didn’t even tell you about the popover…
