We began our ride in the crazy morning rush hour traffic and made our way out of Manhattan over the Queensboro Bridge. Our first “facility” stop was at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. A 1,225 acre park, home of the 1939 and 1965 World’s Fair. Today, the park includes two major professional sports facilities everyone is familiar with – the Billie Jean King National Tennis (home of US Open) and Citi Field (home of the NY Mets). Our destination was the quaint village of Roslyn in the North Shore area of Long Island. Roslyn was adorable and full of historic homes and buildings dating back to the 1700’s. We stopped at Roslyn Pond Park for a nice picnic lunch and a much need break.
This was a hilly ride and a total of 63 miles and 3,402 calories burned! On these group rides, I don’t get the opportunity to take as many photos as I would like, but I was able to capture a few. The leaves are just beginning to have a yellowish tint and I can only imagine what the next few weeks will bring! Oh, and of course the ride wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t return through rush hour traffic coming back into Manhattan! All I can say…I was WIPED OUT after this ride!
