As much as I was excited over the snow, it never occurred to me that a damp heavy snow added to leafy branches would equal major damage in the NYC parks. In Central Park alone it could mean the loss of up to 1,000 trees. The worst damage in almost 30 years…

This is only October, oh my gosh!
This is freaking cold,
October snowfall is rare in New York, and Saturday marked just the fourth October day with measurable snowfall in Central Park since record-keeping began 135 years ago, the National Weather Service said.

The loss in Central Park is just devastating. People from all over the world come here to see it and it’s such a shame of how long it will take the clean up to be complete. They were just getting over the damage of Hurricane Irene.

We were on the upper west side for the snowstorm. It was lovely to look at through a warm window, but you’re absolutely correct. Now that we begin thinking about it, it is quite a loss. Hopefully the snow steers clear until the foliage can adapt!

My heart is broken! The same thing happened in Vancouver, Canada @ Stanley Park. I adore trees and it takes forever for them to grow back. Just an absolute shame.

Mine too! When you think of the age of some of these trees it is so heartbreaking!
