Greetings from Arizona! Yep…still here, but in a couple of days I’ll be on the road to New Mexico doing a little channeling of Georgia O’Keeffe. Really looking forward to exploring a part of this state I’ve never been to…the small village of Abiquiú…the second home and studio of Ms. O’Keeffe. And of course a return visit to Santa Fe to visit the museum dedicated to her…with a couple of hikes thrown in to take in those wide open spaces!
It’s hard to believe that I’m coming up on seven (!!) years in my beloved city, NYC and I’m really looking forward to my return in a couple of weeks. But I must say…in the 30 years of living in Arizona…this spring has been the most gorgeous I’ve ever experienced. It’s been so wonderful to be here in the warm temperatures, working in my flower beds, setting up the studio and soaking in the beauty hair replacement systems of the desert…not to mention perfect timing to witness the once a year bloom of my night blooming cereus above!
I still have a couple more postings of Cambodia that I want to share…and one on how a couple of friends sold everything and hit the road and how that’s working for them…as well as what catches my eye in New Mexico…so stay tuned…because you know once I get back in my city it’ll be all about NYC! Well…with the exception of a little trip to Ptown thrown in with some besties!
xo, gg

I can’t hardly believe you are coming up on seven years in your beloved NYC either frissy. I remember, like it was yesterday, when I came out to visit you for the first time. That four day visit was like a dream come true to me and changed my life in so many ways… First time I ever traveled anywhere alone, first time I ever went dumpster diving and allowed it to be captured in a photo…, and that trip bonded me to you as my frister… So much more than a friend, so we decided we needed to be sisters by choice, and the only word for that was frister… I love you MORE than I have words to express. Thank you for all you have shown me through your eyes, and all the ways you have helped me grow by expanding my world beyond what I could have ever imagined… love and hugs always…XoXo

I know! It blows my mind!!! I will ALWAYS remember that first trip…the best time ever!! Thanks for always being there for me…to listen…to laugh…to cry…to share a bottle (or two) of wine… You are so special!!!! Love you MORE!

The “once a year bloom of my night blooming cereus” is totally awesome, Robin. OMG! That’s worth printing and hanging on your wall. I keep forgetting that you’re working on your studio. Please show us the finished look…or the look from beginning to end, in progress. The before and after. I can just imagine how it’s getting your creative juices flowing. And with your upcoming trips, we’re all in for some more treats! Thank you for sharing them.

It just can’t get more gorgeous than that can it! I actually have a huge macro of a bloom on my living room wall in NYC. I’ll take a photo at some point and share it for everyone to see. It’s pretty awesome too. Yes, I’ve been taking photos along the way of the studio…so at some point when I feel I’m closer…I’ll share for sure! My days are running out here, so it’ll be this fall when I attack it again. So much of it is just getting used to the light and how to maneuver a small size room. But getting there! Thank you always!!

Yes the cereus is heartmelting! Your photo of it is beyond luscious. Wow!

I just love Virgina’s comments.
Also, ditto to everyone else above.
Absolutely beautiful.

Also your studio progress.
Enjoy, my dear.

In my last visit to Arizona, I can see why you love it. My visits have been so tied up with family. My trip in April was the first time I really looked at the desert and thought about the possibility of making it a part time home sometime in the future. Granted, I may be camping out in a rundown camper of my brothers, but there’s an adventure somewhere in that. Enjoy New Mexico! I need to visit there some day also.
gotham girl says
Hey…nothing wrong with a rundown camper as I’m sure it would bring it’s own adventures! 🙂 You must visit New Mexico too. This was my third time and I could easily spend some serious time there. Wide open spaces and Santa Fe is just filled with art! Thanks always for your visits!

Beautiful image, Robin! Always such a treat to check in with you. Can’t wait to get caught up on your posts! I have to say, I was surprised to read about your being in NYC for seven years. I must have missed a few of your posts along the way because I just assumed you had lived there for decades! Shows what a great chronicler of NYC you are!
gotham girl says
What a wonderful surprise! So great to hear from you Mary and leaving all these nice messages! Thank you!! P.S. Looking forward to seeing your new blog home!

I love your travels of course, and that beautiful image, but you have caught me with the people who have sold everything and hot the road…..!! You are such a free spirit Robin x
gotham girl says
Oh yes! They are amazing…it takes guts for sure to sell it all and hit the road! I’m looking forward to sharing about them. Thanks for your visit! xo

Some brief stops in AZ are tolerable for me…and seeing the natural beauty is a must when I visit, but the heat keeps me away from AZ and family there in the crowded PHX area. But the late Feb/early March spring was a breath of fresh air and a wonderful respite…the desert in bloom is a sight to behold indeed. Now NM is my favorite!
gotham girl says
Actually the heat has never bothered me…I’ll take the month of July in Arizona versus NYC or anywhere back East any day! But it’s not for everyone so I understand! I’m so fortunate to have the best of both worlds…but this particular spring just really took it to the next level! And yes, NM is awesome! Thank you!

I can’t wait to see O’keeffe’s story through you… enjoy the ride!

Thanks sweetie!! It was great and I thought of you so often!

Your springtime there in the desert sounds wonderful as this gorgeous image proves, I could gaze at it all day, and right now heat is something we’re really craving in these parts! Keep enjoying and documenting all the fascinating places you roam ~

I know you’ve had such a hard winter and I wish I could package some of our beautiful weather up and send it to you! Thanks always Susan!!
