I love the color red, exposed brick walls, hues of yellow and orange with a touch of bohemian thrown in. So it didn’t take lots of convincing to have dinner at Epices du Traiteur, a charming little eatery on a side street in my hood, the Upper West Side. French for “caterer’s spices,” Epices is definitely a little bit of this and a little bit of that…French, Italian, Moroccan, Middle Eastern, to name a few.
To start, a shared vegetarian plate of hummus and baba ghanoush with pita bread. Nice. I ordered the tortellini with shrimp and scallops, tossed in a light cream sauce. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the cream sauce very light, just the way I like it. A taste of the B’stilla, a Moroccan layered pie with filo, chicken, almonds, vegetables and spices could have easily been dessert. That was clearly worth the 25 minute wait it took the chef to prepare.
Add a nice bottle of Sauvignon blanc and attentive waitstaff and you’ve got an enjoyable evening in their cozy outdoor patio garden.
This one makes it to the ” Gotham Girl Recommends” list for sure. Thanks Carol and Ken for an enjoyable evening!
