Hey Missy, I know I have some accessories in here somewhere for you!
One of the many things I love about this city is that art, design and fashion don’t have to be hidden away in the confines of a museum. (I have to admit, unless it’s photography, I’m really not that thrilled to spend hours wandering the museums even if it is the Uffizi in Florence or the Louvre in Paris, both of which I’ve visited. I know, shoot me. I’m just not a museum kinda gal.)
Anyway, wandering down Broadway the other day I ran into Sidewalk Catwalk, a one-of-a-kind public art exhibit featuring the top fashion designers of NYC. Presented along the stretch of 40 city blocks, 32 designer mannequins by 30 leading designers and two student design teams each modeling a bold, one-of-a-kind design.
How clever. This was created by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District to showcase the heart and soul of the Fashion District. Even more clever? All of the mannequins will be auctioned off to support an organization, Materials for the Arts, which provides materials to non-profit art groups and New York City public schools. Gotta love it!
