What to do on a Friday evening? Check out MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art. What could make it even better? Free admission, compliments of Target. I specifically wanted to view Pictures by Women: A History of Modern Photography since I will soon begin a course with the New York Institute of Photography. What better way to fuel the creativity and provide inspiration!
I left the third floor in awe of the work of two photographers in particular:
First was Roni Horn, a native New Yorker. Her water photography was mesmorizing. Interesting that I’d just taken the above photo while in Minneapolis and really hadn’t put my finger on it as to why it intrigued me so. She nailed it with one of her comments; “Water is sexy, the sensuality of it teases me when I’m near it.” So true. I felt it, but hadn’t found the words.
Second was Anne Brigman, born in Hawaii in 1869 and passed away in 1950. Her photograph,The Wind Harp, was so mystical to me. Interesting that many of her images taken between 1900 and 1920 focused on the female nude, dramatically situated in natural landscapes or trees. What a trailblazer!
The perfect tonic to start the weekend. MOMA should absolutely be on your “must see” list when visiting MY city!
