I love it when I find a business run by a woman who has a) lived all over the world…b) dumped the corporate world…and c) added her entrepreneurial spirit to her creative side. Liza Fiorentinos was inspired by living walls during the time she called Paris home…and today…she’s the mastermind behind her living art business, Luludi…the greek word for flower. Having a passion for flowers and gardening myself…it was her terrarium making class that drew me in. There were a ton of decorative items to work with…including air plants (no soil needed) which is perfect for New York City apartment living. It’s a great venue for meeting new people, a date night, or something different to do with a bunch of girlfriends! Always fun discovering something new here in my city and it’s even better when it’s in my hood, the Upper West Side!
On the left I added my little Buddha to accompany my purchased zodiac terrarium…and on the right…my creation!
As a photographer (painter, sculptor, etc.) I think it’s so important to be open to other arts for inspiration…just like learning flower arranging with a store bought bouquet…or watching films…or gardening…or going to museums…it’s all good and keeps the creative juices flowing!

They are all beautiful. Of course I love all the pretty colors and textures of yours best! But then, my second choice would be the little hanging terrarium, so tiny and delegate looking and I love the colors in it too! How fun, and yes, that would be the perfect girlfriend bonding time too! XoXo

You did a great job, Robin! They came out beautiful!
So much fun to learn new things and meet people – You are truly my heroine!
Jessica & I took a glass fusing class last year and it was so nice to bond over creating.
You get lost in the creating after the inital apprehension of how to start and the finished oroduct.
So nice to “escape” for a few hours while you create.
Have you ever dappled in Mandelas? I think you would enjoy the history and art form.
I agree, the airplants are perfect. I am enjoying my first terrarium and I haven’t killed the plants, yet. Great sign, seeing as though I have a black widow thumb and even killed a cactus, as a teenager.

Robin, please ask your webgirl about editing comments, LOL. I meant dabbled not dappled and I constantly miss the buttons on my phone and misspell. It’s embarrassing.
gotham girl says
Not to worry…we all do it because mainly these darn phones and tablets have a mind of their own!!

Thanks! But lots of help from the wonderful folks at Luludi! You are so right on…after the initial apprehension of where to start…the creative juices just begin to flow. Love that you did the mother/daughter class! Now…have you been reading my mind? I adore mandelas and just two hours ago (two hours!) purchased a moleskin sketch to just doodle and play with creating mandelas!! How did you know? Hmm..some psychic powers going on there!! Thank you!!!

Robin it was so wonderful to create with you and thank you for such a heart warming post! You are so right- it’s wonderful to take time and create and sink our hands in Mother Earth! Hope to see you soon and please stop by and say hello and let us know how your gorgeous terrarium is doing!

How I would have loved that class, Robin! I took a botany lab course at MICHIGAN and LOVED what we did. Back then it was hanging baskets and I did one with fuchsia that I’ll never forget. Creativity comes in so many shapes and forms…you’re so right. Thanks again for the inspiration!
gotham girl says
Oh you would have! Totally agree…so much surrounding us that inspires us constantly! Thank you!

Robin, You are speaking my language! I have a serious love affair going with terrariums (check out the book The New Terrarium by Tovah Martin). Your creation is beautiful – and such a simple way to bring the joy of nature indoors. And how right you are about being open to new art forms. For years I tried to get my un-bendy body to cooperate and now I am taking yoga and seeing it as artistic expression rather than exercise. Keep sending your goodness out into the world!
gotham girl says
Thanks Donna! oh, can’t wait to see some of your creations…I know they will be awesome!

You know what I think about your photographs and the words “Living Art” move me because, on some level, I believe human life is not sustainable without a sense of art with all its message and mysteries within it
gotham girl says
Totally agree with you! Thank you!

Nothing grows my creativity like switching it up
and playing with other mediums and trying new bites of art;
this living art is my absolute favorite. Other than words.
With sort of have a life of their own, so I’d say they’re living too:)
I love the way you inspire….so much thanks!

Thanks so much Jennifer! I totally agree…and yes, words – especially your words – are totally living art!
