Fifteen years later…to see the beauty and mysteriousness of Machu Picchu once again…
Fifteen years ago after a grueling (yet amazing) four days of hiking and camping on the Inca Trail, it was difficult to truly appreciate the beauty of one of the world’s most famous man-made wonders…and only if you’ve completed that journey will you understand. There’s not a history lesson here…you can find that on the internet…nor will I bore you with tons of photographs…just a few…but I will leave you with these thoughts…
Everyone needs to visit Machu Picchu at least once…
and definitely a second time if you’ve hiked the Inca trail!
p.s…lots to share with you from the weekend! Stay tuned! gg

You know that question that is sometimes asked and you have to give an answer (what is your greatest regret???): that I never went to Machu Picchu when I had the chance back in 1969, before flying home to get married to Bill. I had two weeks of waiting and was asked by friends to go with them over the weekend to visit this incredible site. But, no, I wanted to save my money for the wedding! (sigh)
Well, at least now I can visit it through your eyes…and sensibility! It’s not the same, of course, but the next best thing. Thank you.

Thanks Ginnie! I so understand! I can so hear you saying…”But, no, I wanted to save my money for the wedding!”

Beautiful. So glad you had the opportunity to return.
I think the first trip you made was right when I met you. I remember you telling me you were going on a trip – hiking and rainforests. Perhaps it was Costa Rica or Peru?
Nevertheless, gorgeous! I highly doubt I will ever see Machu Picchu with my own eyes and certainly not hike but thank you so very much for sharing your journey.
I love “traveling” along with you!
XOXO

Hiking the Inca trail and visiting Machu Picchu was before Medco, but we did several South America trips so it was probably another one you’re thinking of! Thanks always for your comments and for traveling along with me! xoxo

Thank you so much, my dear, what an incredible side . Thank you so much for this pictures – they are amazing. Not many people around? Did you take the train up? No problems with altitude sickness?
gotham girl says
Thanks so much Karen! For the time of day and certainly the time of year I was pleasantly surprised with the volume of people. But the area is just so huge I think even when there’s a ton of people it can still feel somewhat empty, especially in the areas farthest away from the entrance. I was expecting way more people, so pretty pleased in general. Wasn’t pleased initially about the time of day…but the clouds really helped out and the lighting was pretty good for photography. This trip we took the train up and back. Last one we hiked, but took the train back afterwards. You know I did’t have any issues with altitude my first trip, but I think because we had time to acclimate and this trip we just hit the road running. So yes, lots of issues…headache, unsteady, nauseated…but it got better in the afternoons. You must go!
