Our cycling adventure today took us out of Central Park, through Harlem and ultimately to the Bronx. Destination: Wave Hill, a 28 acre estate, consisting of public gardens and a cultural center. A very quiet and leisurely ride along Harlem River and as we approached our destination we had a ½ mile climb closely followed by a ½ mile uphill with a VERY STEEP 1/10th of a mile uphill to the Wave Hill entrance. Boy the thighs were burning, but what a treat at the end. It’s situated on the slopes overlooking the Hudson River and the New Jersey Pallisades, within the Bronx in a wealthy neighborhood called Riverdale. The homes overlooking the river were exquisite, dripping in vines and very well manicured.
Once inside we strolled through the gardens which are designed so there’s always something colorful and interesting to look at during every season. The views across the Hudson River are striking and my thoughts immediately went to how absolutely stunning it must be here during the fall. Unfortunately the time of day for taking photos wasn’t the best, but when I downloaded my pics this particular one summed it up for me. Color everywhere your eyes could take you. Absolutely a cycling trip for the memory books today!
