You know…I walked barefoot in pigeon shit in the temple of Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, opposite the Red Fort and chaotic main street of Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi, India, but after that experience there was absolutely no desire to walk in monkey shit and urine up Mount Popa near Bagan, Myanmar.
You see, at the top of Mount Popa are numerous temples and relic sites, as well as the home for hundreds of monkeys. A two to three hour hike up 777 steps in bare feet, well let’s just say I found it much more desirable to view this area from a distance. So how about poolside from the Mount Popa Resort?
Along the way there were markets…one of my absolute favorite experiences while traveling…
And yes…there were monkeys along the way…much better viewed from a distance…
Lovely people…
Interesting finds along the way…
Totally worth the day trip from Bagan, Myanmar!

If I had been in your shoes barefeet, Robin, I would have made the same decision, for sure. Monkeys are cute, sometimes, but so very filthy in their habits. Bap rap, I know.
What an experience! I keep saying it but it’s so true. I will remain satisfied to have seen it through your eyes, so thank you for sharing!

OMG Frissy, I agree with you that taking all that in from pool side is exactly what I would want to do… Let the inexperienced travelers walk through the monkey shit… Beautiful photos of that amazing place. Thanks so much for sharing your travels with us. XoXo MORE!!!

These are fabulous shots. LOVE the top one, the grey-tones. The markets always look great, so much of a choice and they are so proud on what they sell. The kids look they have a lot of fun.
Don’t you think those monkeys look like old men… Love them, erm… with my shoes on, yes indeed….
