Along my walk this morning, I stopped by the Boat Basin Cafe hoping to see if an opening date looked any time soon. (For obvious reasons it closes during the winter.) I must say this is one of my favorite places to go on a warm summer night. Looking out over the Hudson watching the boats slowly making their way down the river. Oh yes. Soon. Workers were busy preparing for the opening with the sounds of John Fogerty blasting out of the outdoor speakers. Hmm…I no longer needed my iPod.
As I rounded the corner I could hear the sounds of an electric saw buzzing away. My first glance at the gentleman building the new outdoor bar immediately reminded me of my father. In a flash I went back in time as a child being with my dad as he worked on various projects. I just love the aroma of fresh wood being sawed. So of course I chat with him for a bit and learn his name is Diog and he’s from the Dominican. I could have hung out with him all morning…but he had to work…and I had to get on with my day. Can’t wait for opening night!

I love the Boat Basin too! It’s the best on a summer night. We walk down from 95th through Riverside Park, grab a beer and enjoy the summer night tucked away in this magical place. We will have to be in touch and meet there one summer evening! It was so great meeting you last night, you are beyond lovely.

love that place. I remember when it wasn’t so crowded. Still though….do we have a date for a beer? or two? or three?

The only time I went to the Boat Basin it was PACKED in a bad way. I should try it again this season though. It was great to meet you, hope our paths cross again soon.
