Ok, for the first time EVER, I photographed in my sleep last night. Perhaps my brain is just so full from all the inspiration in San Miguel…AND all the inspiration from getting caught up on many of my favorite blogs! Whew!
One of the unique experiences (and there were many!) in San Miguel was the San Antonio Artists Community (SAAC) where they opened their studios (which is often their homes – double bonus!) to the public for the weekend. I’m sure many people rarely leave the historic center when visiting San Miguel, but you’ve missed out if you don’t wander around the surrounding neighborhoods and specifically the neighborhood of San Antonio. A quiet, pleasant residential area filled not only with local artists…but with local flavor as well.
There’s so much to share, so I just picked out a few of my favorites!
Not only do I adore the work of Kathleen Cammarata, but her home…oh my! Just had to capture the unique railing up the stairs leading to her studio. Her paintings…her drawings…her monoprints…Kathleen “examines the place and terrain of an imaginary world subject to growth, change, explosion, and rebirth.” You can learn more about her and her stunning work here.
Then a stop at Linda Soberman’s house and studio…
“I bear witness to the past and ensure continuity. For me, it is my art that connects me to the past; and it through my art, that I will pass on to future generations the necessity of never forgetting.” So well said. You can read more about her and her work here. One day, I definitely will attend one of her workshops on photo transfers!
Continuing on to the Barro.Co clay art studio, a renovated warehouse with high ceilings and lots of natural light, it has all the equipment necessary to make and fire your work. The owners, Adria and Alberto have such an adorable story behind it all. Take a minute a read about them here!
While wandering around in their studio, I totally fell in love with Marco Vargas’ work…wouldn’t it be fun to have these on your patio?
And the work of Annie Evans! She finds inspiration from collecting horns and antlers from around the world as well as using the time she spent with chimpanzees to inspire her human-animal hybrid sculptures.
Aren’t these artists amazing?! And this is just a touch from the afternoon walk! Oh…and there’s so many more experiences from San Miguel de Allende to share…so stay tuned!

What’s so clear to me, Robin, is that you will find art everywhere you go in this world of ours! Art and form and beauty and creativity…because you yourself are full of it. You can’t help but attract it to you! Thank you for then sharing it all with us!

I Scrolled and read the last posts. Absolute fabulous pictures again. I just ‘taste’ that you were half way heaven again 🙂
Life is so beautiful and I am so happy that you are able to see it, like we see it too. In that regard we both are so blessed, to be able to witness it.
Have a great weekend.
