OK…why Buenos Aries, Argentina? Well I’ve mentioned my son and his partner and of course my granddaughter…but I thought I’d start at the beginning so you have a better understanding. A number of years ago, through an exchange program, a young Argentine teenager stepped off a plane and into my life. Within no time we developed a close relationship, somewhere between a mother and son and best friends. The years since have only made that bond stronger. So off to Argentina for a fun filled week and to meet his partner and their daughter Misha. Oh what a wonderful time we had together…and…there’s so much to share about this vibrant and intoxicating city over the next few posts, especially now that I have some down time on the farm with my parents before heading back to NYC.
First, it’s springtime in Buenos Aires and the city is bathed in purple from the blooming Jacaranda trees and perfumed with the fragrance of the jasmine.
Since this was my third trip to Buenos Aires, I really wanted to spend time visiting areas they enjoy when they’re not working. Their love of the outdoors and cycling provided several trips to their local parks.
If you need your green fix and some peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle of the city, you must visit Bosques de Palermo (aka Palermo Woods.) Similar in size to Central Park in NYC, this park has been in existence since the end of the 19th Century.
Another favorite, Buenos Aires Botanical Garden (aka Jardin Botanico Carlos Thays de la Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires) also located in the neighborhood of Palermo is filled with statues and monuments since its inauguration in the late 1800’s. Both provided captures of gorgeous flowers, trees and statues and reminded me so much of the quiet and beauty of the parks in my own city, NYC.
Taking advantage of the value of the US dollar, we rented an apartment in the barrio of Palermo so we could all gather and enjoy every moment possible. Oh…Palermo…full of the old and the new. Luxury apartment homes and palatial mansions of the wealthy and famous littered with cafes and small boutiques. After several generations many of these incredible homes are now occupied by foreign embassies like the one above. Strolls in the neighborhood and the parks provided much wanted quality time to chat and photograph together. Quality time that I will sorely miss…but always treasure.
Coming up next…the people of Buenos Aires…

Your images of Buenos Aires are beautiful, I have a weekly radio show here in Dublin on Sunshine Radio called Travel Talk, I am planning my first ever visit to BA this year and would love some tips and it would also be great to meet up with some locals there for a chat, do Eze and Ivan work in tourism, it is always great to have an insiders perspective on a place. Your blog is great, I loved Arizona when I went there a few years ago and am hopefully also heading there in the near future again, Best wishes, Ed
