It was sad to leave beautiful Antwerp, but life goes on (sigh) and besides…there’s more to come like discovering Amsterdam and meeting new friends and being shown the real Holland!
But before I go on with this post, the only disappointment was the FotoMuseum (FoMu) in Antwerp. There wasn’t a mention on their website (the English translated version) they’d be in between shows, the gift/bookstore had very little inventory and there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. Not a happy camper as this was at the top of my list of places to visit.
Oh well, until the Netherlands…sharing a little more of Antwerp…
The city of Antwerp is divided into two by the river Schelde. If you want to go to the left side of the river you can take the car and drive or you can walk/ride your bike via the pedestrian tunnel. Of course this was a must-see as I knew it would be a fun place to photograph and it was!
Now here’s something interesting…during my trip to India last year the mannequins were light skin and now in Antwerp, Belgium all the baby mannequins I came across had dark skin. Hmm…just an observation…
If you’re a blog follower, you know I adore taking photos of mannequins and hats. Loved seeing all the hat shops filled with the pillbox and fascinator hats that are so in fashion in Europe! (And yes, slowly coming to the states, at least here in NYC.)
So many great ones to choose from…but this is my favorite garage door from Antwerp. Such an artsy community and so refreshing!
And one last tip if you plan to visit Antwerp…you must go to the Goossens bakery on Korte Gasthuisstraat 31. OMG.
See you in the Netherlands!

Thanks Mary! I’ve started a whole collection of garage doors! Who would’ve thought the Belgians would have used garage doors as art pieces! Love it!

Now you have REALLY whetted my appetite to go back to Antwerp and really explore it. Maybe that will be my birthday trip next June! I love how you pick-n-choose what to show…as opposed to me, showing the whole shootin’ caboodle! (sigh)

I love your approach too! I’m putting together a few items I picked up and will mail to you and Astrid for that trip!!
